Secure

The recent Terrorist threats in the UK led to tight restrictions on hand luggage at UK airports. A large number of business travellers were affected by this when they suddenly found they had to put their laptops into the hold, not one of the safest places for expensive equipment. Although the restrictions have been lessened, a bit of planning now could help in the future and help reduce the impact of losing your laptop or the data on it
Two sites with useful information on are Yahoo News and a more lighted article on Laptopical.

Protect

Identity theft is something that most people are at risk of and it can happen to both online people and to people who have never logged onto a computer in their life. Business owners actually have three potential risks from identity theft. As well as having to protect their own personal identity they also have to protect the Company identity and secure their client data to ensure it isn't used for identity theft of their customers.
Past business identity thefts have included registering a web address similar to another company and then copying their website so visitors think they have gone to the correct website. These thefts normally hit the news when large banks are involved, known as Phishing attacks, but other companies are just as vulnerable. Advice on identity theft came be found on the BBC News website and from the Home Office.

Automate

Microsoft have a new Office suite due out next year. Microsoft Office 2007 will provide new tools for automating common tasks and brings a number of features to Outlook that help manage workloads.
An earlier test release is available on a number of magazine CDs but if you want to try Office 2007 without installing it Microsoft have made an online testing site available at Office 2007 Testdrive. An early look will help you decide if an upgrade will be useful.

Deliver

Blogging was a huge buzzword last year but is slowly being replaced with video blogging and podcasting. The advantages of a blog are still valid and can help generate customers and build an expert profile. The most important thing about a blog is to keep it up to date with fresh content, be one of the people like Seth Godin and be talked about and referenced based on your blog. People will visit repeatedly if the information is new and relevant.
You can sign-up at a blog host such as TypePad or Blogger. For the more adventurous you can integrate a blog into your own website using WordPress.

Empower

Microsoft Outlook is a great e-mail tool but very few people realise it can be a great time management tool. With all the functions of the traditional Filofax, along with the ability to synchronise with a large number of mobile phones, Outlook can really help plan your life.
Microsoft have produced a number of freely available articles on improving your business and life with their tools, including one on Outlook Time Management.
For most people an empty Inbox seems impossible but it is achievable using the techniques in the article.
