Companies Act 2006 and your e-mails

Changes to the Companies Act are due throughout 2007 but one seemingly minor change became law on the 1st January 2007. Going under the long title of The Companies (Registrar, Languages and Trading Disclosures) Regulations 2006 the document amends a number of Acts, including the Companies Act of 1985.
The notes section near the bottom of the webpage summarises the information. Current interpretation of the changes is that all official communication from a registered company (either hard copy or electronic) should include the basic registration details, such as registered address, number and country. This information was previously only included on company letterhead but should now be on e-mails and websites.
These changes to the Act are now enforceable so you will need to review your e-mail signatures and web pages.

HTML emails with Outlook 2007

Although Office 2007 isn't available in the mainstream at the moment it was released to Corporate licence users in November last year. Web marketeers have been testing Outlook 2007 since the earliest beta, and as an article on CampaignMonitor shows, problems with the viewing of HTML e-mails was put down to beta software.
Official information from Microsoft has now shown that Outlook 2007 uses Word to display HTML instead of Internet Explorer as in previous versions. The list of unsupported HTML and CSS is quite extensive and means any tricks used to currently display pretty e-mails may not work.

Coming soon to the UK - Free accountancy package

Microsoft have been developing a Small Business accountancy package in the US for a number of years now. Originally called Small Business Accounting 2006 a new version has been created and re-branded as Microsoft Office Accounting 2007. An Express version is available as a free download in the USA and should be available in the UK early this year.
Obviously aimed at the Sage market the Express version will be bundled in with certain editions of Office 2007.

MS Office 2007 documents

If you're getting Office 2007 before everyone else you may need to turn the compatibility mode for saving files back to office 2000 to ensure everyone can read your documents. Alternatively you can e-mail people who can't open your documents a link to the official Microsoft compatability utility.
If you're going to be a late user of Office 2007 then look at downloading the same utility and installing it, you get the ability to open and save documents in the new format.
If you are an Office 2007 user and missed the message from Microsoft about saving as PDF and XPS (Microsoft's competitor to PDF) then this useful add-on can be downloaded from the Office site.
