Technology Management & Consultancy Ltd (TMC) is based near Mansfield in the East Midlands. We provide Business Continuity, Information Security and IT Consultancy services to businesses in both the local area and nationwide. At TMC, our senior management initiates and gives full support to our environmental policy. As a responsible company we intend to grow and develop in a sustainable manner. However, we recognise that our operations have an impact on the environment and we are committed to reducing these. The company will follow the systems prescribed in ISO 14001. We are committed to continually improve our environmental performance and we are developing an environmental management system (EMS) to achieve this in a structured way. The company will provide the human and financial resources required to implement this EMS. We have developed environmental performance indicators to help us to assess our current and future level of environmental performance. These also enable us to benchmark our performance against similar companies and industry standards. The performance indicators including monitoring the amount of incoming and outgoing mail compared to e-mail, monitoring the amount of printing done in the office and analysing energy bills. Energy bills will be analysed on an annual basis to review energy usage and costs, alternative supplies will be sought if costs are going up but energy usage is staying the same. If energy usage is increasing an audit will be completed to attempt to identify and reduce the cause. Incoming mail is scanned and the paper copy is recycled where possible. The amount of incoming mail kept each month is reviewed to see if only critical mail is being kept. A log of incoming mail is maintained to help this analyses. Outgoing mail should be sent by e-mail wherever possible. A log of outgoing mail is kept and reviewed annually to see if any additional changes can be made. The EMS covers all the operations at our site in the East Midlands and all work carried out at any client site. It is our Policy to: - Integrate environmental management into our day-to-day business operations to ensure environmental issues are addressed, whilst providing a quality product to all our customers.
- Comply with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations and requirements. To aid in this, advice will be sought from relevant experts and a regular review of the Government and environmental websites will be completed to check for changes in regulation. Where available newsletters will be signed up for to provide a notification of any changes.
- Reduce our use of natural resources such as energy and paper.
- Reuse resources whenever possible rather than dispose of them. Currently items reused include paper for creating internal notepads, CD packaging used to hold internal CDs and mail CDs to clients and packaging material used for our own outgoing deliveries.
- Encourage the use of recycled materials and recycling initiatives. As well as providing paper and cardboard recycling facilities TMC have signed up to a printer cartridge recycling agreement with GBK Exacta in support of UK Children Hospices. Collection facilities are available in the main office.
- Prevent pollution by reducing emissions and discharges. When travelling to client site consideration is always given to the journey and all possible effort is made to include other visits in the same journey. When travelling to conferences and meetings contact is made with other attendees to see if car pooling is an option. Reducing energy and heat output by using TFT monitors has been introduced and the control of heating in the office has been reviewed. TMC has looked at the option of becoming Carbon Neutral and further work will be done on this in the future.
- Provide appropriate environmental training for all our staff and encourage them to support this programme. Staff will be made aware of all initiatives TMC are involved in, by regular meetings and, potentially, a company e-newsletter. Staff will be encouraged to review their work practices in relation to environmental impact and to also review their home impact on the environment using the example of TMC.
- Promote communication with internal and external interested parties and respond appropriately to reasonable requests for information about our environmental performance.
- Ensure that all our staff and the general public can access our policy. A copy of the environmental policy will be made available with the staff handbook and will be published on the corporate website in the Corporate Social Responsibility section.
